Activities 2

Hello Spring!  We’re so happy to see you.  Now that the weather is slowly but surely becoming warmer a whole new array of fun activities and opportunities for learning has been opened up to us.
The sand box and water table have finally come out of hiding.  Children learn a lot of things when they play with sand and water.
Sand: They learn that they can mold sand when they add water to dry sand. They poke, mold and push sand to see what happens. I have props, including shovels, buckets, small plastic containers, sieves and rakes.
Water: They can make bubbles by adding soap to the water. They have a chance to practice pouring and spilling things without worrying about the mess. They discover what floats and what sinks.
These are only a few examples of what they are discovering through their play.  I also try to encourage their learning by helping them to put their ideas into words by commenting on what’s happening. (“Look at the wheel turn when you pour sand into the top.”)
So let’s hope more sunshine is coming our way!

Sensory Activity: Shaving Cream Fun
Give kids a small dab of shaving cream and a clean surface and let them explore it’s texture and what happens as they move their hands around. Smooth it out with your hand and draw a picture or practice writing a letter.

Enjoying the Outdoors/Nature Walks
With the flowers blooming and worms and other critters coming out of hiding there are a lot of things to see, smell and touch. And let's not forget the sidewalk chalk!
